Project
Echelon
10-16-03
As I was reading Something
New Under the Sun,
I began thinking about
Person
County. I realized that with a strategic
evangelism plan the entirety of
Person
County
could be reached with the gospel by a single church if the time and resources
were provided. However, if the conservative evangelical churches were to band together using
current evangelism programs and merely agree together on a concerted effort to
systematically evangelize then, in a
matter of months, the whole of
Person
County
could have access to the gospel.
Written above is my first thought when I realized how easy
it would be to organize an in mass evangelism project. Project Echelon is merely a means of organizing current evangelism programs at local churches
to work together to systematically evangelize the whole of of
a given area. This plan requires little effort on the part of any one
individual person or church. Echelon is a three phase plan that is further
developed below but follows the basic pattern of organization, initial
evangelism, special evangelism. If you wish to start this program in your
area all you have to do is organize your church, and then organize leaders from
other churches.
Echelon's 3 Phase Plan
Phase 1:
Organization
You must first organize your church. If your church has an existing
door-to-door evangelism team, then this step is done. If your church does
not, then start an evangelism program, and if necessary an evangelism committee
that would receive funds from the general budget.
Next, you must organize the individual churches in your area. Schedule a
meeting with their evangelism committees and pastors in order to present the
plan. At this meeting you must divide up your region and discuss plans to
reach it within a certain time frame. Remember, it is not your job to tell
them when and how to evangelize. This takes a burden off of you and gives
their evangelism team a greater freedom. Instruct the liaison for each
church to begin to catalogue information on their participants talents (For
example: sports, music, balloons, counseling.).
Phase 2:
Initial Evangelization
Implement the agreed upon plan. This is the time for mass evangelism
door-to-door. The idea is that every house in your area should receive a
visit. It will be helpful if you catalogue information about each visit.
This information will be helpful during phase three. Also determine areas
of special interest/need: jails, nursing-homes, hospitals, parks, project areas,
public parks, stadiums, etc. Make business cards and print the address for
the tracts page on this site, some other site, or your own site on the card
along with the number for the Evangelism
Response Center, and
perhaps the church address -give them out like candy.
Phase 3:
Discipleship, and further evangelism
Phase three is where special efforts are used utilizing data collected
during phase 2. There are two areas of focus in phase 3. The first
Focus is evangelization of "Target Areas." The second Focus is
discipleship and home Bible studies.
Design evangelism strategies for Target areas.
Door-to-door is not the most effective plan, however it is sure to meet
everyone. Now that phase 2 is finished, it is time to go back and hit the
Target areas. In "project" [low rent] districts try sports
clinics.
Phase 4: Go
This is not really a phase, but it is a necessary step; move evangelism efforts outside of your area.
Mobilize all of your Church members
They Can Pray, facilitate a new believers bible study –each church should have
such a study- lead a home bible study, evangelize on a team, nursing homes and
hospitals [consider also Evangelism
Response Center, even shut-ins can participate!].
